Verizon will activate a trimode phone from another carrier if it is unlocked. I have a letter from Verizon stating they WILL NOT activate phone from other carriers (even phones unlucked, or with MSL's) because the Verizon billing software will not work correctly with those phone for roaming purposes. However, I have never known a large corporation to be 100% accurate. The letter was a reply from an inquiry about activating 25 Audiovox CDM-9155 GPX's previously on use with Western Wireless d/b/a CellularOne(West). What market do you live in? These phones were going to be activated in Fargo, ND; Bismarck, ND; and Minot, ND. I'm also glad you had good luck. Did you have to do a lot of probing to get SPCS MSL's? Or did they come unlocked. I'm just wondering. About Dakota wrote: > I guess I stand corrected then. The only way this won't work is if the phone is not trimode or the phone has been disabled to where you can't change the MSL. > The letter was a reply from an inquiry about activating 25 Audiovox > CDM-9155 GPX's previously on use with Western Wireless d/b/a > CellularOne(West). I'm not sure but these phones might already be unlocked. You need to find the programing instructions and try to program them. If it asks for the code then you know. > What market do you live in? One thing to remember, don't tell them they aren't Verizon phones and you will be alright. > I'm also glad you had good luck. Did you have to do a lot of probing > to > get SPCS MSL's? Or did they come unlocked. I'm just wondering. Nope, I just got them from the salesmen when I bought them or got them from the online activation at Sprint's web site. The Kyocera 1135's I bought for 19.99 each when Sprint had the big sale a while back had the codes on the box under a sticker that had the PRL 10019 on them. What's funny is when I activted them Verizon said they were 2135's. Should not be possible. Vzw operates on another nertwork technology different than other carriers. Unless you do get a reseller to remove the tech and reprogram the new tech, the phone cant work. Plus you have to pay a fee to do this. Much easier to buy a phone. The same technology used by SprintPCS, Qwest, Alltel, Western Wireless, US Cellular and many other carriers. I have successfully activated phones from other carriers on verizon without any problems. The question is.was it worth it? To begin with, someone must supply you the subsidy lock code. Someone in the Sprint newsgroup offered to send it to me if I E-mailed him my ESN number. Much to my surprise I received the code a few hours later. A private dealer signed me on as a Verizon customer but couldn't get the PRL to change. I learned that subsidy lock code had to be one recognized by Verizon or all zeros (many dealers set the phones to zeros) for *228 to work. I changed the code to zeros and I was able to update the PRLs. Many manufacturers have the phones customized for use on their network. My dealer referred me to an associate dealer who reprogrammed the phone to light up as a Verizon phone and follow Verizon's sequences. It is not unusual for a dealer to sell the same phone model to users on different networks. So, some dealers have the software to accomplish this. Verizon was unable to help me with any of these problems. Another word of caution. If I sent the phone for repair the manufacturer (Motorola) said that they would program the phone back to Sprint because it had a Sprint ESN number. I was told this could be avoided by sending the phone via Verizon for any repairs. Fortunately, it's two years later, the phone works fine, and has never needed repairs. Well.was it worth it? Getting rid of Sprint was worth it, but the phone ordeals probably weren't. In fact, over the years, some of the phones they've offered have been the same phone. >Unless you do get a reseller to remove the tech and reprogram the new tech You can't 'program' a TDMA phone to talk CDMA. You have to replace the phone. But, since both Sprint and Verizon use CDMA, that's not a problem. Only getting the MSL used to be. >Plus you have to pay a fee to do this. Much easier to buy a phone. A fee to tell a verizon rep to change your ESN? You call *611 (I think you can do it on line these days), ask for the ESN change, wait a few minutes after they say it's done, dial *228 (or the appropriate number if you're on PCS), hit 1, wait for the phone to disconnect from the call and you're done. Hardly even an effort, let alone a fee. So much you know. I am a sales person, but not out to sell phones. However, its doesnt take a genius like yourself to know that you cant activate a 'foreign' phn on another network. Its ok though, try it. These agts you go to will tell you its ok.till you call VZW and say' um, i cant get my all tell phone or sprnt phone to work, it wont program, uh, what do i do?' I deal with you every day. I don't go to an 'agent' to activate my cell phones. I call customer service and do an ESN change and I'm done with it. And one other thing., this genious knows how to take another carriers phone and move it to Verizon I got a shit load of phones that I use personaly and some that friends are using. If it's trimode and unlocked and a brand of phone that Verizon sells it will work with no problems. M rae wrote: > ha! So much you know. And your right the problem here is that people do come here to ask questions and have MORONS like yourself give them misinformation. It can't be your sweet disposition.
